Body Paragraph

In the book “Frederick Douglass” by himself, he illustrates the truth of slavery in the early 19th century. Based on his personal account, he depicts various slaveowners’ characteristics and their effect on him. Tying in other factors such as religion and education, Douglass is able to demonstrate how these factors aided in further the oppression of slaves in this time. He shows the dehumanizing aspect of slavery both physically and mentally, describing other slaves' experiences which he witnessed. After getting to know Douglass throughout his narrative, I learned more detailed information about slavery such as their lessened identity which is not spoken of in textbooks. I liked being able to be taken along Douglass’ journey to find himself and hear of his truth about the horrors he faced.
