Appointments & Submissions

The Brentwood Public Library is committed to providing services that meet the needs and wants of our community. The makerspace was created to meet the creative, educational, and expressed interests of our patrons.  Not sure where to start? Make a makerspace appointment. 

Maker Space Appointments: You can make an appointment to use the makerspace with this form. Please read the rules on patron use beforehand.

3D Printing (PLA & Resin): You can submit files for staff to print for you with this form. Please read the rules on patron submissions beforehand. 

Poster Printing: You can submit files for staff to print for you with this form. Please read the rules on patron submission beforehand. 

Pricing

Pricing depends on the project, material, and equipment. Not sure what equipment or materials you’ll need? Make a makerspace appointment. Our staff will contact you to help you get started.  All payments are made at the Reference Desk through debit or credit card ONLY. Any item that needs to be picked up can be found at the Reference Desk.     

Patron Use

  • Machines may not be used unless under direct supervision by a designated staff member.
  • Any and all materials used with a makerspace machine must be approved by a staff member on the makerspace team.  
  • The library is not responsible for any damages to materials, personal items, or loss of data. 
  • Any and all project files are your responsibility. The library is not responsible for storing files. Any data stored on a library computer is automatically erased, daily.  
  • The library is not responsible for any injuries caused by mishandling of makerspace machines.  

  • Patrons must make an appointment to use any machines outside of open makerspace hours.  

The following items will not be permitted for creation in the Makerspace: 

  • Any items prohibited by state or federal law. 
  • Weapons or weapon replicas. As well as any unsafe and otherwise harmful items. 
  • Any items in violation of intellectual property rights, trademarks, copyrights, or patents. 
  • Any items deemed obscene or inappropriate. 
  • Furthermore, the Brentwood Public Library retains the right to reject any designs it deems unsuitable for creating, for any reason. 

Appointments

  • Appointments can be made by filling out an appointment request form.
  • The Brentwood Public Library withholds the right to cancel appointments at any time due to library closures, staff availability, and equipment viability.  
  • Confirmation of an appointment does not guarantee reservation of the entire makerspace for private use.   
  • Makerspace appointments will be scheduled in 2 hour increments . Additional time is available at the discretion of assigned staff.  

  • Currently, appointments can only be made to use the Cricut Maker 3 and Singer Sewing Machine.

Prusa 3D printer

Rules for submission for adults (ages 18 and over): 

  • Patrons may request 1 print per week. 
  • Submitted files must be in STL. format. 
  • For PLA Printed objects, the maximum dimensions of a printed object are 200 x 200 x 200 mm. 
  • For Resin/SLA Printed objects, the maximum dimensions of a printed object are 143 × 89 × 175mm 

  • Library staff reserves the right to resize submissions unless dimensions are specific in the request. 
  • Unless otherwise specified, the library will utilize shell, infill settings, and speed which will optimize filament usage. 
  • The Brentwood Public Library is not responsible for any damage or injury caused by 3d printed objects.  
  • After submission staff will process requests on a first come first serve basis.  

  • Patrons will be contacted via phone or e-mail with estimates of cost and time to be agreed to by the patron before printing.  

Rules for teen submissions (ages 13-17): 

  • 3d Printing requests are for library cardholders only. Patrons may request 1 print per month. 
  • Submitted files must be in STL. format. 
  • Print times must not exceed 9 hours. 
  • Printed models have a maximum weight of 100g. 
  • Maximum dimensions of a printed object are 200 x 200 x 200 mm. 
  • Library staff reserves the right to resize submissions unless dimensions are specific in the request. 
  • Unless otherwise specified, the library will utilize shell and infill settings which will minimize filament usage. 
  • The Brentwood Public Library is not responsible for any damage or injury caused by 3d printed objects. 

Pricing for 3D and Resin Printers

Printing fees will be based on the estimated time a print takes to complete. These fees may be subject to change based on the materials available. Currently, only adult patrons will be charged for printing.  

Current cost: $0.50 per hour of print time. Time is not to exceed 24 hours.  

All payments are made at the Reference Desk through debit or credit Card ONLY. Any item that needs to be picked up can be found at the Reference Desk.     

Cricut Maker 3

  • The Cricut machine cannot be utilized unless a designated staff member is present for the duration of its use. 
  • A list of materials the Cricut Maker 3 can cut can be found here: Materials 
  • Patrons must provide their own materials.
  • All materials used in the Cricut machine must be pre-approved by a library staff member. All materials must be less than 2.4 mm thick. 
  • Only staff members can change the blades in the machine.

Cricut Auto Press

  • Any and all materials for the auto press must be approved by a staff member prior to use. As a general rule, any material placed in the auto press may not exceed 2 inches (5cm) in thickness.  

  • Patrons are responsible for providing their own materials.  

  • The auto press cannot be utilized without a makerspace staff member present.  

Cricut Mug Press

  • Patrons must provide all materials needed for the mug press.  

  • The machine cannot be operated with a staff member present at all times.  

  • Heated mugs may only be removed from the machine by a makerspace staff member. 

Cricut Hat Press

  • All materials for the hat press must be provided by the patron.  

  • The Cricut Hat Press cannot be operated without a makerspace staff member present.  

Boss Laser Engraver

Patrons may utilize laser engraver services by scheduling a consultation appointment through the makerspace appointment request form. Patrons must provide materials to be used in the machine.  

Only the following items can be used in the laser machine:

  • Clear Glass
  • Wood without a finish on it
  • Acrylic
  • Craft Leather

If requesting an item to be cut with the laser, the thickness of the material cannot exceed ¼ inch. The overall size of the item cannot exceed 40 inches by 24 inches.  

The library will not laser any items of personal value or items with an internal battery. The library is not responsible for any damages to materials, personal items, or loss of data.

Pricing for Laser Engraver

Engraving fees will be based on the estimated time it takes for a job to be completed. Time is based on project material and design complexity.

All payments are made at the Reference Desk through debit or credit card ONLY. Any item that needs to be picked up can be found at the Reference Desk. 

HP DesignJet Z9+ PostScript

  • All file submissions must be in JPG, PNG, or PDF format. 
  • Submissions are printed as is. Staff will not edit any posters. 
  • All submissions are reviewed and approved by staff before printing. 
  • Submissions cannot be guaranteed by a certain date. 
  • After submission, staff will process requests on a first come first serve basis. 
  • Patrons will be contacted via phone or e-mail with estimates of cost and time to be agreed to by the patron before printing. 
  • Payment is available only by credit card, debit card, or contactless payment. 
  • Allow 24 hours after printing for ink to dry and cure. 
  • Patrons are responsible for their own trimming/cutting. 
  • The Library is not responsible for any file that is formatted incorrectly or for poster ink fading over time. 
  • The following items will not be permitted for printing:  
    • Any items in violation of intellectual property rights, trademarks, copyrights, or patents.  
    • Any items deemed obscene or inappropriate.  
    • The Brentwood Public Library retains the right to reject any designs or print requests, for any reason. 

Poster Paper Available

  • 24-inch width heavyweight matte paper 
    • $1.00 per foot (based on length) 
    • The minimum length is 12 inches. 
      • Example: A 24x48 inch document would cost $4.00. 
      • Example: A 24x12 inch document would cost $1.00. 
    • 23.5 inches is the printable area due to the print margin. 
    • Not for outdoor use.

  • Patrons must provide their own materials for use.

  • All materials used in the sewing machine must be pre-approved by a library staff member.  

  • Only staff members can change parts in the machine.
