Library Outside Old

Our Story

In 1937 when our library was founded, Brentwood’s population had grown to approximately 1500 people. The library was set up in the cloak room of our local firehouse. It contained 500 books and was open 10 hours a week. In 1938, the library moved to a storefront on 1st avenue and in 1940, it moved to the second schoolhouse on Third Avenue and Fourth Street where it remained till 1953. If the photo of our 1940 location looks familiar to the residents of Brentwood, it very well should be. What you are looking at is the history room of our present library.
